Setting up OpenVPN access on the Apple iPad

We have made the configuration of OpenVPN on iO/S devices as easy as possible for you by creating a pre-configured config file for OpenVPN Connect connections which will be automatically emailed to you by our system.

Setting up OpenVPN requires the OpenVPN application and the VPNUK configuration files. Links to the application and our configuration files are in part 1 and part 2 of the following tutorial.
1. Download and install the 'OpenVPN Connect' application from iTunes. [DOWNLOAD NOW] (NOTE: Reboot once installed)
2. Configure your VPNUK connection. Our system will automatically email your Config files to you. [CONFIGURE NOW]

1. Install OpenVPN Connect

Downlod and install the 'OpenVPN Connect' application from iTunes. [ DOWNLOAD ] (NOTE: Reboot once installed)

2. Start Configuration

Click here to configure the OpenVPN config files from our server. Our system will automatically email your Config files to you or you also have the option to download them manually.

3. Choose a Server

If your account is on the Shared IP platform, you are welcome to choose any or as many servers as you like. If you have a Dedicated IP account your server details will be automatically selected for you.

4. Get the files

Confirm your email address then click onto the Continue button, this will instruct our server to email your config files to you. The email will arrive after a couple of minutes.
NOTE: Some web based email clients will not recognise the configuration files. The easiest solution is to use one of the built in email clients on your iO/S device or a free sendtodropbox.com email account.

5. Open Email Client

Our system will automatically email your OpenVPN Configuration files to you. Click onto the configuration file and choose to open it in OpenVPN. If the file does not have the option to OpenVPN in OpenVPN you can send the file to Dropbox using the following alternative method.

*Alternative method:
If the email attachments do not have the option to open in OpenVPN you can forward the email to your Dropbox account using https://sendtodropbox.com. Dropbox will allow you to forward the attachments to OpenVPN. Once forwarded, go to your dropbox app, go to 'Apps' and open 'Attachments' then select a configuration and click onto download icon in the top right corner, you will see the option to 'Open in OpenVPN'.

6. New Profiles Available

You should see the newly imported profile in the OpenVPN overview.

7. Select the Profile

Select the newly imported profile and click onto the plus '+' symbol

8. Enter login details

Enter your login username and password. You can also save the details.

9. Connect

Toggle the Connection slider from the Off position over to the 'On' position.

10. Connected!

Thats It!! You should now be connected. A VPN icon will appear in the task bar at the top of the screen to indicate you are connected to the VPN.

Troubleshooting Guide

Your VPNUK account should work first time, everytime. If you ever experience any problems with your VPN connection the first thing we urge you to do is contact us on our Live Help service, we can offer instant assistance with all connection issues and get you back online. The following is a basic troubleshooter for the more common issues that can arise from our VPN service.

ISP DNS Hijack / DNS Leak Protection

Some ISPs will attempt to hijack your DNS settings which hinders the VPN connection from functioning correctly. If you find that your VPNUK connection does not route your traffic correctly you can try changing your Public DNS server to the VPNUK DNS server or to an alternative like Google DNS.
1. Go to Settings.
2. Go to 'General'.
3. Go to 'Network'.
4. Select the connection type you use to access the internet.
5. Select your connection properties from the list of available networks.
6. Change 'DNS' to the VPNUK Public DNS server: 109.169.6.2 or the Google Public DNS IP address: 8.8.8.8.
7. Thats it!
